You are required to keep records of all employee injuries or illnesses incurred on the job and maintain your records for at least 18 years.

Workplace accidents must be reported to the WCB and The ABC Compensation Trust if:

• there is loss of time from regular duties exceeding one day beyond the workday or shift in which the accident occurred;

• medical treatment beyond ordinary first aid is required;

• more than two first aid treatments are required.

Failure to report any accident fitting the above criteria within 10 days after the employer learns of the injury is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine and/or penalty.

Minor Injuries—First Aid Option

Minor employee injuries that result in no more than one lost work shift and two treatments by a doctor are classified as "Section 110 claims." The ABC Trust requires its members to self pay Section 110 medical bills—the claim will then neither be counted against the employer’s experience modifier nor reduce their dividend, and the Trust reduces its claims administration expenses.
